SWAT
SWAT (Soul Winning Action Team) is a vital ministry made up of elders and other members trained to respond to our community with a message of hope and a love for Christ reflected in them. This team is prepared to give bible studies, pray with and for souls in despair, and to answer questions from God’s word.

Carpenter's Shelter Dinner Service

FAITH IN ACTION: Serve a delicious meal to our brothers and sisters inside the homeless shelter. Masks are optional.
WHERE: Carpenter's Shelter
  • Breakfast Service: 2355-B Mill Road, Alexandria, VA 22314
  • Dinner Service: 930 N Henry St, Alexandria, VA 22314
WHEN:  4th Sunday of the Month
Note: We alternate breakfast and dinner services each month; they are not done on the same month.
TIME: 5:45AM (breakfast service) or 5:45PM (dinner service)

Age Guidelines: Volunteers must be 13+ for breakfast, 18+ for dinner

ALIVE! Food Distribution

FAITH IN ACTION: Help ALIVE! distribute grocery bags, produce, and eggs to families in our community.
WHERE:  Location varies
WHEN:  4th Saturday of the Month
TIME: 7:30AM-11:00AM

Note: Volunteers should be prepared for light lifting and a mix of indoor/outdoor service. Closed-toe shoes required.
Age Guidelines: Youth ages 12+ may serve with a chaperone.

Back 2 School Community Event

Get students ready for school at this outdoor event!
  • Hand out backpacks with school supplies, food, concessions, and more.

WHEN:  Saturday, August 22
TIME: 1:00PM-5:00PM
  • Sign up for a shift:
    • 11:00AM-5:00PM (entire day crew)
    • 11:00AM-1:00PM (set up crew)
    • 1:00PM-5:00PM (during event crew)
    • 5:00PM-to completion (clean up crew)
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your shift so you have time to find parking.

DC Central Kitchen Meal Prep

Help prepare and pack meals that support seniors, children, and local communities (up to 16,000 meals daily). Tasks include food prep, packing meals, and chopping fruits and vegetables.

WHEN:  Saturday, August 8
TIME: 2:00PM-4:00PM
Age Guidelines: Volunteers must be 12+.

IMPORTANT: In order to fully register, please complete the form on DC Central Kitchen's website.

Registration Instructions:
  • Step 1: Create your account in the DCCK Volunteer Portal.    
  • Step 2: Please select “Create an Account for Group Registration.”  
  •  Step 3: Follow the correct prompts to proceed. When you choose “Type of Volunteer Experience” be sure to select Corporate/Organization. Then search for your group “Community Praise Church” in the portal.    
  • Step 4: Continue to fill in the additional requested information. 
  • Step 5: Digitally sign our General Liability and Waiver form. Note: The COVID-19 Vaccine Attestation form is optional.
  • Step 6: You will receive an email from “Appian for D.C. Central Kitchen” including a temporary password and a link to create your permanent password.  
  •  Final Step: After logging in, Select the “Sign Up” tab at the top left of the screen to go the calendar and view shifts. Select the August 8 Afternoon Food Prep Shift, then click the button to sign up. After completing this, You are signed up and all set.
